SellUsedBooks.com is the online book and textbook buyback service of MyBookDrive, Inc.

The SellUsedBooks.com Sell Used Books College Essay Contest is designed to help students cope with the rising cost of education. Essays will be judged on originality, organization, strength of ideas, and presentation (including grammar and spelling).

“My name is Shannan Brown and I attend college at Cameron University. My goal is to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Criminal Justice. Education has always been an important aspect of my life and I believe that my chosen profession will enable me to fulfill my desire to help others and to expand my knowledge base. Outside of my education, I enjoy volunteering through my employer, Liberty National Bank, with many local organizations such as the United Way, the Special Olympics, and have helped raise funds for the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma in search to find a cure for cancer! I feel that by participating in community-related activities I am setting a positive example for others and it makes me feel good about myself. I am delighted to have been chosen as a finalist for this scholarship. With it I can attend more classes and it will help me with a step closer in fulfilling my goals!”

"My name is Lauren Souza and I’m a Social Work student at Arizona State University. I decided in high school that I wanted to devote my future to improving the lives of others. As I am finishing my second year of college, I definitely feel stronger than ever about my decision. I hope to become a child life specialist after I obtain my Masters degree, working in hospitals with the Oncology patients. In my free time outside of work and school I like to do photography projects, outdoor activities and volunteer work at Maggie’s Place. I am so thrilled to have been chosen as a finalist in the sellusedbooks.com essay contest, and the scholarship would go a long way in helping me achieve my future goals."

"I am a senior at University of Central Florida with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Political Science. I enjoy learning how to play the acoustic guitar, piano and singing in the choir at school and church. I love writing poetry as well as reading Jane Austen and Lori Wick books. My greatest passion is honoring Jesus Christ and with such a passion I want to continue mentoring children and help them understand the privileges of getting an education. Once I graduate I plan to further my education in a Criminology doctorate program and become a professor."

Spring 2012 Award:

Entries must be submitted on or before April 15, 2012 to qualify. One Grand Prize Cash Winner will be announced on or before May 15, 2012.

Grand prize: $1,000

To enter, submit a short essay on the topic "Why I deserve to win this scholarship."

• Essays must be between 300-500 words.
• Essays must be submitted through the SellUsedBooks.com online form.
• Open to college or university students 18 and older who are legal residents of the United States.
• SellUsedBooks.com employees and their relatives are not eligible to win.
• Students may enter only once per scholarship period.
• All submitted essays become the property of MyBookDrive, Inc.
• Winning essays will appear on the SellUsedBooks.com website, along with the author's name.
